Formaldehyde Meter PCE-VOC-1

PCE-VOC 1 is a portable volatile organic compound (VOC) and formaldehyde (HCHO) meter or gas leak detector for indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring applications. This easy-to-use VOC meter is ideal for measuring volatile organic compounds (TVOC) and formaldehyde (HCHO) in homes, offices, factories, laboratories, hotels, schools, and other indoor locations. Indoor air quality monitoring.

With a compact, lightweight yet robust design, the VOC meter PCE-VOC 1 displays units in parts per million (ppm) or milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m³). The device not only emits an audible alarm but is also large and easy to use. The LCD display turns red when a critical VOC or HCHO level is reached.

What are volatile organic compounds (VOCs)?

VOCs are gaseous or vaporous airborne substances of organic origin. Examples of VOCs are hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, and organic chemicals.

Where do VOCs come from?

Many cleaning products, solvents, paints, varnishes, adhesives, and other synthetically manufactured substances can generate VOCs. In addition, many naturally occurring organic compounds formed by biological processes such as plant metabolism, decomposition and breakdown can generate VOCs.

How do VOCs get into the air?

VOCs can become airborne through evaporation or emission. Sources of evaporation can be household cleaning products, building and construction materials, as well as furniture, flooring, and interior decoration. Emission sources can include traffic exhaust, tobacco or cigarette smoke, and industrial pollution. Even food preparation and human metabolism can be sources of airborne VOCs. The spread of various contaminants that are not firmly embedded in the products is less obvious.

These contaminants can slowly be released into the air from the product surface. This applies, for example, to residual solvents in plastics (monomers), auxiliaries used in the production process such as plasticizers, solubilizers, antioxidants, stabilizers and catalysts, and by-products such as fragrances, flame retardants, and biocides. VOCs, called terpenes, can be released from naturally occurring materials such as wood. VOCs can also be formed when oxygen, ozone, or water reacts with natural water ingredients in wood and vegetable oils.
